Black Canyon was produced as a site-specific piece for ZiMMT Halle, it was composed using footage recorded in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan, but the process started by creating the sound design before working with the images. This approach was conceived to explore the potential of ZiMMT’s 3D audio setup. The result is a blend of noise, drones, and diffuse imagery, with visual references that at times recall classical oriental painting and, simultaneously, digital territorial maps. The work offers a sonic and visual experience in which the canyon — these monumental fractures in the landscape — takes center stage

The work explores the deconstruction of images through diffusion, the intervention of noise, and its combination with translations into 3D models of canyons and geographic landmarks. Noise, both visual and sonic, serves as a reference to the processes by which artificial intelligence systems generate images by breaking them down into absolute noise. In a time of hyper-visibility, the decomposition of images becomes a mode of production. Black Canyon adopts this backstage aesthetic as a central compositional element.
